The 2023-2024 school year is the 7th year of competition for our GreenpowerUSA program at Long Cane Middle School.

NOTES: 0.975 mile track. ***This event was the 38th race event for the Cougar Strong Racing program since its inception in the fall of 2017***. This was the 6th time this race has been held and in the modified division it was the 6th consecutive time that either 000 or 999 has placed 1st overall. It was the 4th consecutive time that 555 has placed 1st overall in the stock division. 000 logged a total of 63.05 miles, 999 logged a total of 62.08 miles, and 555 logged 60.14 miles between the two race heats. Combined team miles driven at this event: 185.27 miles.

#000 Team - 1st place overall (Intermediate Modified) - Score of 96.415/100 - (55 laps in heat 1)
​#999 Team - 2nd place overall (Intermediate Modified) - Score of 89.824/100 - (50 laps in heat 1)
#555 Team - 1st place overall (Intermediate Stock) - Score of 97/100 - (55 laps in heat 1)

NOTES: 0.437 mile track. This was the 39th race event for CSR since starting in 2017. This was the 4th time this race event has been held and CSR kept our streak alive of taking the top spots in both divisions. 000 won the endurance race and had the highest of our team's presentation scores, so they finished 1st overall in the modified division. 999 had a spinout on lap 1 and later had a staple in the tire causing them to have to pit to change it, but they fought their way back to 2nd place in the endurance race, and finished 2nd overall.  555 finished first among stock teams in the endurance race with 55 laps, tying the lap count of the modified division. They had the second highest team presentation scorej among our teams, and the highest overall event score of our teams. In fact only one other team (a high school team) had a higher overall event score (by 1/2 point).  000 & 555 logged 24.035 miles each, and 999 logged 21.85 miles, for a team total of 69.92 miles. All teams only got 1 race heat at this event.

Team presentation score for 000 was 99.67. Team presentation score for 555 was 99.67. Team presentation score for 999 was 98.33. The 000 team logged a total of 61 laps which was 59.17 miles. The 555 team logged a total of 57 laps which was 55.29 miles. The 999 team logged a total of 50 laps which was 48.5 miles. ​Total team miles driven between the two race heats = 162.96 miles.

Going into the national championship at talladega superspeedway

We've completed 8 races so far this season and we have our final race event in just 10 more days. Our 6th grade 555 team is ranked 1st in the nation for the stock division, & our 7th & 8th grade teams are ranked 1st & 2nd in the nation for the modified division. Team presentation score for 000 was 99.65. Team presentation score for 999 was 98.25. The 000 team logged a total of 69 laps which was 68.03 miles. The 999 team logged a total of 69 laps which was 68.03 miles. The 555 team logged a total of 61 laps which was 60.146 miles. ​Total team miles driven between the two race heats = 196.21 miles. The competition was very tough this year and even with excellent scores we came up just 1.12 points short of our 6th consecutive national championship. Even so we are proud of our students and their accomplishments this year.

000 team - NATIONAL RUNNER UP, INTERMEDIATE MODIFIED
​999 team - NATIONAL 3RD PLACE, INTERMEDIATE MODIFIED
555 team - NATIONAL 4TH PLACE, INTERMEDIATE STOCK

  • All 3 of our teams placed top 2 in 8 of 9 race events
  • ​000 & 999 placed top 3 in all 9 race events
  • All 3 teams led the nation in season points
  • ​Our 3 teams logged 1,527.49 miles during race heats in just 9 events - more than any other program in the United States. (national GPUSA total was 17,408.16)
Last year we logged 1,600.78 miles in 18 race heats. This year we only got 17 race heats. Were on track for 1,617.34 if we had gotten the same number of race heats as last year.

With the conclusion of the 23-24 season, our 000 F24 has completed 7 years of racing for Long Cane Middle School. In that time the 000 car has competed in 46 race events. At 39 of those 46 races, the 000 F24 has finished 3rd place overall or better. 000 has accumulated 1 National Championship in the modified division (2022), and they have 5 national runner-up titles (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024).


999
With the conclusion of the 23-24 season, our 999 F24 has completed 6 years of racing for Long Cane Middle School. In that time the 999 car has competed in 44 race events. At 42 of those 44 races, the 999 F24 has finished 3rd place overall or better, and 999 has finished 2nd or better at 40 of those. Wow!
999 has accumulated 4 National Championships in the modified division (2019, 2020, 2021, 2023). 


555
With the conclusion of the 23-24 season, our 555 F24 has completed 4 years of racing for Long Cane Middle School. In that time the 555 car has competed in 31 race events. At 29 of those 31 races, the 555 F24 has finished 3rd place overall or better. 26 of those 31 were 2nd place or better, and 21 of those 31 were first place overall finishes. Wow!
555 has 1 National Championship in the stock division (2021).
